Gamma Jan, aka Janet Johnston, is a retired school teacher who has lived in places such as Saudi Arabia, Yemen and the Unites States for thirty years. While teaching in International Schools abroad she met children and grown-ups from almost every corner of the world and she made new friends and experienced many different lifestyles, cultures and traditions along the way. Her life-story is as interesting as it is adventurous. From enjoying Arabic food and dances and visiting with Bedouin families to picnicking by the Red Sea, experiencing the First Gulf War first-hand in Riyadh and barely escaping the Rift Valley Fever in Yemen - Gamma Jan has seen it all. Her experiences abroad strengthened her desire to share a message of cultural diversity and mutual respect and understand with children and grown-ups all around the world. Accomplishing
her lifelong dream of teaching children from different countries and
cultures was also the inspiration behind her first book, We
All Live on the Earth (written
by Gamma Jan, illustrated by Lea Lackey-Zachmann, with music by Fran
Ellis.)
Janet and her husband live in Greensboro, NC. They have three grown
children and two grandchildren. |
